* “Don’t Say We Didn’t Talk About It”……Top Ten Coverages Often Overlooked by Senior Living Communities

Presenter: JKJ Associates

The senior living community has changed significantly over the past five years. Technology has increased, laws have changed, and oversight has tightened. With these changes, senior living communities have increased their exposures to loss. To keep up with these changes, there have been insurance coverages created and designed to cover these additional exposures. This presentation will focus on the insurance coverages every community should have, but may not.

* Skilled Nursing Households & Person-Centered Change —  Impact on Care, Survey Results , and Lawsuits

Presenter: Steve Lindsey, President & CEO, Garden Spot Village

A recent study of skilled nursing communities that have initiated “culture change,” indicates a significant decrease in health-related survey deficiencies. The study reported that nursing homes and retirement communities that transitioned from an institutional model to homelike, resident-centered care has resulted in a 14% decrease in survey deficiencies. Furthermore, we believe it results in a reduction of Professional Liability claims.

Garden Spot Village has been a leader in the transition to the “household” setting. Steve will discuss the ins and outs of this transition and the positive impact it has had on his community.

* Risk Business: Pendulum’s Top 10 Risk Control Recommendations

Presenter: Ric Henry, President, Pendulum

Each year, Pendulum’s consultants conduct hundreds of on-site risk assessments at senior living facilities across the United States, closely scrutinizing high-risk operational and clinical processes. After an on-site visit is completed, consultants produce a written report that summarizes their findings, highlighting areas of potential risk and areas that may hinder defensibility. Based on these findings, recommendations are made to help the facility implement new risk-reduction strategies and enhance defensibility.

* The Game Plan for Aging, Your Four Quarters of Life

Presenter:Mark Everest, President & CEO, Occupational Athletics

Mark focuses on the employees of an organization and asks the question, “What is your Human Maintenance System for your employees?” Your employees are your #1 asset and it is important, like any of the assets in your organization, to maximize their efficiency. By using sports analogies for aging and living, Mark will walk you through the Four Quarters of Life and how to develop an action plan that will preserve and benefit the personal well-being of your most important asset.

* Active Shooter and Workplace Violence Awareness

Presenter: George Giangi, Chairman, Business, Industry and Infrastructure for the South Central PA Task Force

Unfortunately this is a timely and more frequent topic. This presentation is designed to improve the knowledge of management, security & safety coordinators and all general employees in the areas of workplace violence and response to an active shooter incident. It will provide the basis for developing or improving upon workplace violence awareness programs and response to active shooter plans.

The Mid-Atlantic region is in the midst of one of the harshest winters in history.
