Brad A. Maurer JD, CPCU heads JKJ’s Environmental and Professional Liability Insurance Program. Mr. Maurer is a licensed Pennsylvania attorney, but has focused his career on the underwriting and brokerage of insurance for the environmental industry for the last fifteen years. Most recently, Mr. Maurer comes from an executive post with a major New York City brokerage firm where his group represented over 300 environmental service firms and placed several environmental insurance programs for both international and US-based businesses. Mr. Maurer seeks to enroll forward-thinking, sustainability-focused environmental and engineering service firms into economical insurance programs while also offering his risk management expertise to all businesses that have environmental liability exposures.

The foundation of protection from liability claims against a professional service company or contractor is found in three liability coverages. The coverages may be written individually or as a package. Coverages are: General Liability (GL), Contractors Pollution Liability (CPL), and Professional Liability (E&O).
- Umbrella Liability
Umbrella or "excess" coverage provides additional limits usually on a "follow form" basis above your primary coverages, consisting of:

- Auto Liability
- Employers Liability (Part B of the standard Workers' Comp coverage)
Environmental contractors and engineering firms typically carry Contractor's Pollution Liability and Professional Errors & Omissions coverages. These coverages can and should be added to your Umbrella wherever possible. This may incur additional premium.

About Brad A. Maurer JD, CPCU
Brad Maurer is the executive directing JKJ’s Environmental and Professional Liability Insurance Program. A former executive for two prominent environmental insurance companies and an executive of a Manhattan-based insurance brokerage firm, Mr. Maurer is a fifteen year veteran of the environmental services and environmental insurance growth industry. Mr. Maurer has been extensively involved in the insurance of environmental and engineering service firms, industrial operations and contaminated property development-particularly in the emerging Brownfields marketplace. He is the co-author of three primary insurance forms used in the environmental insurance market today and frequently lectures regarding environmental liability risk management within the legal and insurance communities.
Before entering the insurance industry, Mr. Maurer was an Environmental Scientist for Black & Veatch Architects Engineers in their Hazardous Wastes Management Services Division. At Black & Veatch, Mr. Maurer performed most of his work in CERCLA site remediation oversight as well as RCRA compliance consultative services for industrial customers.
Mr. Maurer holds a graduate Juris Doctor degree and is a licensed attorney in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Mr. Maurer holds dual undergraduate degrees in Policy & Management and Environmental Science from Dickinson College. He holds the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation from the American Institute for Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters and is a member of the American Bar Association, the Urban Land Institute and an associate member of the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts.
Mr. Maurer speaks often on the topic of environmental risk management for the CPCU Society, American Bar Association, Several State and Local Bar Associations, National Association Conferences and private conferences. Recent publications include articles in The John Liner Review, The Bureau of National Affair's Environmental Due Diligence Guide, and West Publishing's Real Estate Finance Journal.
